Merry Meet Witchlings,
Welcome to my new website and blog! If you know me and my “Merry Meet Witchlings” greeting then you may have joined me from my first blog “Journey of a Young Wiccan Witch”. I must say that blog did not go as well as I wanted it to but I did learn what my mistakes were and I am here to fix them! You can take a look at my previous blog if you like, however I did transfer the popular information over to this blog, the web address is
http://journeyofayoungwiccan.blogspot.com/
That blog was started when I wanted to restart my Wiccan practice, because I felt like my practice wasn’t where I wanted to be. So if you take a look at my very first post it list things I was supposed to have done in an effort to recreate my practice and get it where it needs to be, they were:
1. Take free online Wicca classes.
2. Recreate my B.O.S.
3. Create my altar,
4. Start a herbal garden,
5. Start Daily Devotions.
So let’s go thru each and I will tell you what I did do, what I didn’t do, my reasons, and my advice. This is great for those of you just starting out!
1. Take free online Wicca Classes: I did it but it didn't last. Being someone who is short on cash, purchasing the supplies for some of those classes was out of the question. I liked some of the ones I took as they helped me gain knowledge I didn’t have before I started but that’s all they could have done due to the fact that I could really participate because I had no supplies. This discouraged me a bit and set me back a lot in my studies. But I have no one to blame but myself for that.
Witchy advice: Start small. Network. Re-create. What do I mean by start small? Wicca isn’t going anywhere it is here to stay. So take your time. Read whatever you can get your hands on. I was in a rush to become Wiccan because it made me feel at home that I was getting wayyyyy ahead of myself, don’t let it happen to you!
Network. Try Witchvox, Facebook, wiccan space, craigslist, or shoot me an e-mail via my contact us page. They are TONS of people out there who are Wiccan that are willing to help new wiccans learn! I know I am!
Witchy Side Note: Please do approach strangers with caution, never participate in anything you are not comfortable with, when with a stranger. ALWAYS meet someone new in a public place whether its a coffee shop, the library, or the park, no matter how nice or innocent they may sound. They are also people who are willing to work with you and guide you in the beginning for free. If someone is charging you and you can’t afford it tell them no thank-you! As my momma always told me “Don’t hang your hat where your hand can’t reach”.
Next Re-create. They are plenty of expensive wiccan tools out there and you may be tempted to buy them all in the beginning but you will soon realize that this is your religion! You get to choose how you plan to go about practicing and connecting with your Deity. You may buy a $60 wand and realize you could do the exact same thing with your athame you got as a gift or found for $5.00 at a thrift shop. You could have used that $60 to buy gemstone and herb seeds to start your own witchy garden. You can also make your tools (wands, staff, and pentacle) based on the ones you like online. You can also use items around the house as tools. My cauldron is not an iron cauldron at all it’s a glass bowl (that I found for free-99 in my momma’s kitchen) that looks like a little pot with the handles and everything and it works just fine for me!
2. Recreate my B.O.S.: I am currently in the process of recreating my B.O.S.. It is a simple binder from Office Max. I love it but I think I am going to get the one in pink when I go to get some color pencils and crayons for my artwork.
Witchy Advice: Again I say start small. Please do not go out and buy one of those big leather bounded book when you are just starting the craft. I guarantee you it will be a waste of paper and money. Why do I say that? You are just starting you only have your toes wet. Wicca has many different paths and traditions. You may like one today but fall for another one tomorrow. You may even decide to do like me and create your own path. A big leather bounded book does not give you the freedom to express your interest like a pack of loose-leaf and a binder or a spiral notebook does. You may say “Oh yes it does!” I say tear out about 20 (minimum) pages out of a leather bound book and see what happens! After a while, it will either fall apart, or look funny and Idk about you but I DON’T want my B.O.S. looking funny! LOL. So start out with some $2.00 composition note books (I have 5 currently in use) write about anything and everything you deem Wiccan related get to know where you want to go and how you planning on getting there...it will only help YOU in the long run.
3. Creating my altar: I have not done this as yet. Why? 1 main reason, I live with my family, and trust me unless you have your own room (I do not) you may never be able to have an altar. Altars are sacred and your family may not understand that. Nothing but magickal items should be on your altar, and you family may put books, and clothes, and other items on your altar and that may cause a tension in the family when you have to repeatedly tell them not to.
Witchy Advice: Set up your altar for practices and devotions but take it down after. Also the God and Goddess knows and understands your situation so you don’t need to set up and altar for devotions but always speak from your heart and show them respect always!!!
4. Starting an herbal garden: I have (well it’s an herb and veggies garden) and my babies are growing sooo well. I have tomatoes, peppers, basil, lettuce, parsley, and eggplant. Gardening is good for the soul and for connecting with nature and also every time you water your plants, or pull a weed from their around them you are giving something back to nature. Give it a try, I bet you’ll like it!
5. Start Daily Devotions: I have not started formal devotions as yet due the fact that I am creating my path and finding out how exactly I want to do everything but I do pray! If you’re like “WHAT?!?! WITCHES PRAY?!?!” let me inform you, yes we do pray. We don’t beg for stuff, we pray to show our gratitude for the things we have experienced, and to show our loyalty to the Lord and Lady and to apologies if you have done something wrong. Please note: Apologizing and begging for forgiveness is two totally different things!
So there you have it, my old plans and what I have done, didn't do and my advice on how to approach each task. With that being said I would like to say welcome to my new and improved blog! Here I will be posting much more information from herbal correspondences, to recipes, to prayers, and even how to create your own path, and book of shadows. I hope you stick around to learn, to grow, and to ask tons of questions! After all that’s what I created the blog for!
P.S. I invite you to stay even if you are not a green or kitchen witch because the information provided here can be used in any path you choose and is here for those who want it!
Blessed Be,
WaterLily Pixie )0(
